Graduate Nurse Program

In 2018, there will be two .8EFT graduates positions available with Upper Murray Health & Community Services.

Whilst at UMHCS each graduate will have the opportunity to work in a variety of areas and shifts which includes:

  • Day Procedure Unit
  • Acute Ward
  • District Nursing
  • Urgent Care Centre
  • Aged Care
  • Operating Theatre
  • Practice Nursing
  • Haemodialysis (supernumerary shift)

Graduates will undertake the supernumerary shifts with trained preceptors as an introduction to each area. Following an initial period of orientation, the Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) has their own patient load and is supported by the Clinical Educator, Nurse Unit Manager and other RN's. Graduates will be allocated a Mentor to provide support.

In addition to your orientation program, there will be five study days scheduled throughout the year. These are compulsory, and they will be at UMHCS and also you will be invited to attend study days hosted by Albury Wodonga Health. This allows you to broaden your education area, and network with other graduates within the region. UMHCS will also aim to support you with assistance in finding accommodation for your graduate year, with the program commencing late February 2018.

UMHCS also encourages Graduates to attend any in services/ education which may be suitable to their practice. Daily mini education sessions are also provided on weekdays, on a variety of topics relevant to nursing.
