Diabetes Education

Aims of the service

  • To provide an education program for people with diabetes aimed at improving their knowledge and understanding in all areas of diabetes. eg. medical, dietary, foot care, exercise.
  • To emphasise practical application of knowledge as it relates to an individual's behaviour and lifestyle.
  • To motivate clients to accept responsibility for self care.
  • To provide an opportunity for people with diabetes, their families and/or friends, to interact, providing support for each other.
The service includes:

Individual and group education in:

  • Diet;
  • Treatment including blood glucose monitoring;
  • Foot care / examination;
  • Counselling;
  • Equipment checks;
  • School programs; and
  • Sharps disposal program.
