Aims of the service
- To provide an education program for people with diabetes aimed at improving their knowledge and understanding in all areas of diabetes. eg. medical, dietary, foot care, exercise.
- To emphasise practical application of knowledge as it relates to an individual's behaviour and lifestyle.
- To motivate clients to accept responsibility for self care.
- To provide an opportunity for people with diabetes, their families and/or friends, to interact, providing support for each other.
The service includes:
Individual and group education in:
- Diet;
- Treatment including blood glucose monitoring;
- Foot care / examination;
- Counselling;
- Equipment checks;
- School programs; and
- Sharps disposal program.
